How BSC Analytics Keeps Remote Teams Connected and Engaged with HeyTaco
As the world of work continues to evolve, remote-first cultures are flourishing. One standout example is BSC Analytics, formerly Blue Sentry Cloud, which has embraced a fully remote environment since its inception. Sam Reilley, VP of People and Culture at BSC Analytics, reflects on the company’s incredible growth, how they’ve maintained their core values, and how HeyTaco has become a vital part of their culture.
A Company Rooted in Remote Work
BSC Analytics, a data analytics and cloud consulting firm, provides clients with expert guidance on managing their cloud environments. The company has grown from a team of 20 to over 80 employees since Sam joined three years ago. Despite their rapid expansion, one thing has remained constant: the strong, people-centric culture at BSC Analytics.
“We were founded as a remote team, and it’s very much part of our culture,” Sam explains. “The thing I’m most proud of is that the reason people love working at BSC remains the same—it's because of the people.” Just take a look at the video on the Team page on their website!
The Role of HeyTaco in Building Connection
With a team scattered across the U.S. and internationally, staying connected and maintaining a sense of camaraderie can be challenging. However, HeyTaco has become an integral tool for bridging this gap.
“I had never heard of HeyTaco before coming to BSC,” Sam admits. “But once I joined, I saw how it kept our team so connected despite being so spread out. We have a channel on Slack called the ‘Taco Truck Channel,’ where people send tacos to each other for achievements or simply to recognize efforts. It creates conversations and makes everyone feel more connected.”
Whether someone is celebrating a successful client call or lending support to a colleague, tacos are regularly given out as tokens of appreciation. For Sam, these small gestures have a huge impact on fostering a positive work environment. “It’s amazing to see people across different time zones stay motivated and engaged. HeyTaco keeps us in the loop on the great work happening across the team.”
TacoCon: A New Tradition
BSC Analytics didn’t stop at virtual taco-giving. The company has taken the fun a step further with their annual retreat, affectionately dubbed “TacoCon.”
“We’re a 100% remote team, but once a year, we fly everyone to one location to connect in real life,” Sam shares. “The retreat was initially just called a company retreat, but we wanted something that really resonated with our team. Since tacos are such a part of our daily interactions, TacoCon felt like the perfect name.”
TacoCon is more than just a fun name—it’s a time for the team to celebrate successes, look ahead to the future, and build stronger relationships in person.
Recognition Beyond Tacos
BSC Analytics takes recognition seriously, and tacos are only part of the story. The company runs quarterly and yearly awards programs, where HeyTaco’s leaderboard feature plays a key role.
“We recently used the taco count to break a tie for our Engineer of the Year award,” Sam reveals. “Seeing who’s been recognized most frequently with tacos was a clear indication of how much that person was helping their teammates, aligning with our core value of ownership.”
In addition to individual recognition, BSC also introduced a unique “BSC Gives Back” campaign, allowing employees to redeem tacos for charitable donations to organizations like code.org.
A Remote Culture Rooted in Appreciation
If HeyTaco were to disappear tomorrow, Sam is sure that the sense of connection at BSC Analytics would be impacted. “I think I’d feel disconnected from the team almost immediately,” Sam says. “HeyTaco empowers people daily and makes them feel heard, even if they’re working remotely.”
As BSC Analytics looks ahead to another year of growth, one thing remains clear: recognition and connection are at the heart of their culture. With TacoCon, meaningful awards, and daily appreciation through HeyTaco, the team continues to thrive—proving that even in a fully remote environment, strong relationships and a sense of belonging are always within reach.
